Sabattus Rec Club BlackJack 5k

SABATTUS — This is an untimed 5k event on Thursday, July 11. Registration is at 5 p.m. with the race going off at 6 p.m. The cost is three dollars. The 3.1 mile course beginning and ending at the Oak Hill Middle School, on Ballpark Rd. in Sabattus.

Those wishing to do so may run the course, but walkers are surely welcome. The idea is to get out and exercise, and have a little fun while doing so. Each participant will receive a card at the 2-mile mark and another at the 3-mile mark. If a Blackjack (face card and an ace) is achieved with the second card, they can call out “Blackjack!” and their name will be taken for a prize. Anyone wishing a third card to try for 21 may get one at the finish line. Small prizes will be awarded for anyone reaching 21.

As this is the first attempt at this type of event, our registration cost is low to encourage participation. Cash prizes will be determined by the number of entrants and the number of Blackjacks and 21 totals.

Norway Tennis Program

The Norway Recreation Department will be offering Junior and Adult Tennis Clinics this summer.

The Junior Tennis Clinic is designed for beginners and intermediates wanting to improve their tennis game. It will focus on correct technique and include such areas as singles and doubles match play, basic strategy and tactics, and individual evaluations. Present high school players, as well as any player aspiring to play high school tennis should definitely attend this camp.

Parent sign up Bonus! Parents can join these lessons too for an additional $25. Learn great beginner drills and games you can play with your kids after the lessons are over. This program is for ages 11-18 and will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School tennis courts from 5-6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays; July 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31. The fee is $75, a portion of the fee will go to the upkeep of the Town of Norway tennis courts.

The Adult Tennis Clinic/Play League will have organized practices that will focus on the basic strokes and instruction on Monday nights along with supervised and instructional play on Wednesday nights. This is a great opportunity to practice strokes and improve match play skills. The instructor will meet you where your skills currently are, even if you are a beginner. This program will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School tennis courts from 6-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays; July 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31. The fee is $95, a portion of the fee will go to the upkeep of the Town of Norway tennis courts.
