PARIS — Oxford Hills graduate Deb Soule will present an informative and colorful slide show on medicinal herbs and sign copies of “How To Move Like a Gardener: Planting and Preparing Medicines from Plants” at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, at the juncture of Route 26 and Western Avenue.

Following the talk, McLaughlin Horticultural Director Kristin Perry will lead a guided tour of the garden focusing on summer blooming plants. The lecture and garden tour are free.

Soule was inspired by Bernard McLaughlin while growing up in South Paris. She has said that when the school bus passed the garden she knew something important was going on there. As a teenager, she began studying medicinal herbs with internationally known herbalist Mary Bove. While a student at College of the Atlantic she lived in Nepal where she was influenced by Tibetan practices to ease physical, emotional and mental upsets through plants and spiritual practices.

Now an adult, she has built a career based on growing plants at Aveena Botanicals in Rockport. For 28 years she has organically grown and then gathered and prepared herbal remedies and taught people how to use medicinal herbs. She is the author of several books.
