RUMFORD — Rumford Public Library will host “Dig Into Reading” summer programs in addition to the reading. The Summer Fest programs are free of charge, and feature special guests who bring an hour of fun-filled activity to the children. All programs will be held on Wednesdays from July 10 to Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. in the public room at the library.

“Snakes Alive!” The Summer Fest programs begin July 10 with guest Rob “Snakeman” White. There will be an opportunity for youngsters to meet some of the snakes up close and personal, if they choose.

On July 17 Carroll the Conjurer will present his brand new magic program “I Dig Books” that he developed especially for library Summer Reading programs.

Bitsy Ionta, “Mr. I the Science Guy,” will bring his love of science on Wednesday, July 24. A retired teacher with a vast repertoire of scientific activities and wonders, Bitsy makes learning fun and exciting. He has been known to shoot a rocket off on the library lawn for his grand finale.

Chewonki Natural Traveling History Programs will present “Tails and Scales” on July 31. They will be bringing four reptiles that have been rescued but unable to return to the wild. Animals include a corn snake, a lizard, eastern box turtle and an American alligator.

She will be accompanied by Bill Hoyt, and together they are known as the “Spoons Band.” Lori will also be teaching the kids how to play the spoons and inviting everyone to join in and sing loud. After Lori’s program, the library will present reading rewards to those who took part in the Summer Reading, followed by refreshments.
