LEWISTON — The operator of six former franchised Midas locations throughout central and southern Maine has changed the name and rebranded the company as Maine Auto Service.

S & D Inc., which owned and operated the franchises for 25 years, is led by Tom Dean and Steve Shaver, who purchased the business from their fathers in 1998. Shaver and Dean decided to end their affiliation with Midas and create a new, completely independent company in order to provide better value to their customers.

S & D Inc. has always been a Maine-based company. Operating under the Midas name, however, many of its customers were not aware of that fact. By renaming itself, Maine Auto Service, the company clearly communicates that it is truly locally owned and operated, with Maine employees, who have strong ties to their local communities.

Maine Auto Service offers complete auto and light truck maintenance and repair services, including brakes, tires, oil changes, state inspections and more. The company offers a lifetime warranty on brake pads and shoes, along with a 12-month/12,000 mile warranty on all other parts and services, good at any of its six locations in Maine (Augusta, Brunswick, Lewiston, Portland, Sanford and Scarborough). The Lewiston branch is at 510 Canal St. The company’s new website is www.maineautoservice.com.
