RANGELEY — As part of ongoing firearms education for the public, the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen’s Association will host an NRA basic pistol shooting course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the RRG&SA Clubhouse.

The course will teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. The course includes classroom and live fire range time, learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, as well as pistol cleaning and maintenance.

The course is open to all individuals over the age of 18. Children 14 and older may attend if accompanied by a parent. No prior knowledge is required. Instructor will provide all materials, firearms and ammunition. This course will provide the necessary education to obtain a Maine Concealed Carry Permit.
