OXFORD — Speeding on a dirt road is being blamed for a single-vehicle crash that sent one teen to the hospital Saturday.

According to Sgt. Alan Coffin of the Oxford Police Department, Thomas Lowell, 18, of Lyman was traveling on Penley Lane with a 17-year-old male passenger, also from Lyman, at 11:50 a.m., when he lost control of his 1999 Volvo S 70.

Coffin described the road as a bumpy dirt road, which, combined with speed, contributed to Lowell’s loss of control and subsequent striking of small trees and brush before coming to rest on the side of the road.

Coffin said Lowell was uninjured in the crash, but his passenger complained of back pain and was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital for treatment.
