In the two cities there is no more interesting place than the Turner Centre Creamery plant, Minot avenue, Auburn. At this plant, they handle millions of pounds of milk and cream monthly to produce butter in great quantities. Frequently the day’s figures will reach six or eight tons of golden yellow bricks of this delicious dairy product. While milk and cream business increases in the summer months when ice cream makers require more on the hot days, as do the soda water men. Milk and cream is sent from this plant to all parts of New England. Distributing stations are maintained in Boston, Lynn, Lawrence, Lowell, Worcester and Providence. These daily shipments are protected from the heat by ice, the concern using 7500 tons of ice annually. The creamery employs a total of 300 men and women.
50 years ago, 1963
The price of gasoline in the Twin Cities took another tumble yesterday at several auto service stations. One chain, which usually is among the price pace setters, took another two cents off its price, lowering regular gasoline to 24.9 cents a gallon. This still is two cents above the low achieved before the Fourth of July holiday period.

Organizers of the upcoming Festival Franco de Lewiston et Auburn say they’re not only looking for a queen, but a “Memere” and “Pepere” to preside at the festivities in August. Any organization may nominate a French-speaking man, woman or couple for the titles. Candidates must be art least 60 years old, and their nomination letters must include such biographical details as date and place of birth, education and occupation. Most importantly, organizations must state why their candidates should win. The four-day festival will take place in Kennedy Park beginning Aug. 11 and will feature a variety of Franco-American entertainment.
