MEXICO — The Mexico Police Explorers will host a benefit concert at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the recreation park to raise money for the Explorers program, Lt. Roy Hodsdon of the Police Department said Monday afternoon.

Hodsdon said this is the third time the Mexico Explorers have hosted a fundraiser. They do it “every year or year and a half,” he said.

“All of the money goes to the Explorers program,” he said. “None of it goes to the Mexico Police Department. They do this to raise money for their program.”

The benefit concert will feature music from the 43 North Band of southern Maine. They primarily play modern country songs.

Hodsdon said the concert is free to the public, though he suggests that all who attend bring a can of food which will be donated to the Mexico Congregational Church, more commonly known as the Green Church.

“The church has a food pantry, so we try to donate to them each year and help them out,” Hodsdon said. “It’s a good cause, and a good way to help out the community.”

The Explorers will use the donations to send cadets to the Maine Law Enforcement Explorer Academy.

“To send six cadets to the Explorer Academy costs around $2,000,” Hodsdon said. “In order to help the Mexico Explorers raise money, we turn to East Coast Marketing Group. We’ve been working with them for three years now, and they always do a good job for us.”

According to Hodsdon, East Coast Marketing Group attempts to raise funds for worthy organizations across the state.

“They go around town and attempt to raise money on behalf of the Mexico Explorers,” Hodsdon said. “They’ve always been a good group for us, and they never put on pressure for people to donate.”

Hodsdon said ECMG will only accept checks specifically made out to the Mexico Police Explorers.

The Mexico Police Explorers is for those between the ages of 14 to 21 from Oxford County who are interested in law enforcement.
