HARTFORD — Town Constable Chuck Merritt told selectmen Thursday night that he is working with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office to address illegally parked vehicles at the town beach on Anasagunticook Lake.

The beach is for residents only, but nonresidents have been using it this summer, Merritt said. Vehicles also block a dry hydrant, which needs to be accessible to firetrucks, he said.

Merritt also told the board he received 25 fireworks complaints around July 4 from people concerned that the noise upset their animals.

Also Thursday, the board reviewed permits issued by Code Enforcement Officer William Kennedy for a garage addition on Camp Road, a new mobile home on Church Street and a two-bedroom apartment with attached garage on Main Street.

Arthur Harvey of the Planning Board advised selectmen there are conflicts on the wording of a lot size ordinance regarding what might be grandfathered on nonconforming lots.

Selectman Lee Holman said the board would study the ordinance to see what could be done.

It was also reported that no one has stepped forward to be emergency management director.
