PORTLAND — A man who died Friday evening after he was pulled from the Fore River earlier that day was identified Sunday as 49-year-old Patrick Flynn of Portland.
Nicole Clegg, spokeswoman for the city of Portland, released the information late Sunday afternoon.
The South Portland Fire Department went to the Thomas Knight Park dock, directly underneath the bridge, just before 5:30 p.m. Friday for a report that a swimmer was in distress in the river, Lt. Robb Couture of the South Portland Fire Department said Saturday.
The South Portland and Portland fire boats were launched, and Portland’s heavy rescue unit searched for Flynn from atop the Casco Bay Bridge before rescuers on the Portland fire boat found him and took him to the Maine State Pier in Portland.
Flynn was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he later died, Clegg said Saturday.
No further information was available on Sunday.
