As an intellectually disabled Mainer, I have been seeing nothing but cancellation after cancellation of programs that are obviously needed to help people, not just with a disability, but people who are sick and need help.

I have received letter after letter of reductions or cancellations of programs that are important to me only so that what I consider less important programs can be funded. The only people who think these other programs are more important are the people who do not care about anyone but themselves.

I hate to say this, but it’s true.

What happened to doing what is good for our state and our state alone? And stop trying to follow what other states are doing?

Leading is what we need to do. Trying to find ways of make this state the best it can be without taking away so much.

It has been said that we need to help the intellectually and physically disabled. Well, look at what is going on with all the program cancellations. The state is telling us one thing and doing another.

I have progressed for so many years with what I have, and now face these cancellations and cutbacks. I quit smoking with some help from the state, but with the cutbacks others who need help can not get it.

Come on. Let’s start helping each other instead of giving to the people who really do not need it and give to the ones who do.
