LOVELL — The great songs of the 1930s and 40s — tunes made famous by performers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Nat King Cole — will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, by The Skylarks at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts.

The Skylarks will present an evening of jazz standards from the Great American Songbook. The Brick Church program will include many well-known favorites, such as “East of the Sun,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Cheek to Cheek,” “Skylark,” and “God Bless the Child,” as well as a few less familiar tunes that will be a pleasant surprise to the listener. A smattering of interesting history will be included throughout the program as well.

The Skylarks are a talented group of local musicians from Denmark, Bridgton, and Harrison. They have combined their musical skills to create a unique and swinging sound — fun to dance to, fun just to sit back and enjoy. Members include Carolyn Rhoads on keyboard, Janet Gill on vocals, Carl Harbourt on drums, Bob Wallace on bass, and Vanessa Jones on violin.

Take a walk down memory lane or come to hear some of these great songs perhaps for the first time, but don’t miss this musical evening. The Brick Church is on Christian Hill Road.
