‘Beauty, Beast’ at Children’s Theater

RUMFORD — The Rumford Public Library Children’s Theater will present “Beauty and the Beast” on Thursday, July 25, at the Mountain Valley Middle School auditorium.

The play has been adapted and directed by newcomer Zach Hodge, who has been active in the Children’s Theater for several years. He is being assisted by veteran director Susan DeRoehn.

There is a matinee showing at 3 and an evening show at 6. Everyone is welcome. Both shows are free.

Old Cemetery group’s meeting

BROOKS — The Maine Old Cemetery Association will hold its second 2013 program day and meeting on Saturday, July 27, at the Harvest Home Grange No. 52, 84 Moosehead Trail Highway, Route 7. The public is invited.

Ray Quimby’s illustrated presentation will be “Brooks: Then & Now.” Also presenting will be Linda Lord, Maine State Librarian, who will discuss “Cemetery information at the Maine State Library.” Dan Mulcahey, Ret. Command Sgt. Major, will tell the group about Brooks’ new veterans memorial, and Betty Littlefield, a Brooks Historical Society founding member and current president, will share information about the society. “An Overview of Some Brooks’ Cemeteries” will be presented just before lunch and after lunch attendees will visit several cemeteries.

From 8:30 a.m. until noon there will be exhibits and displays. Attendees are invited to display information about cemetery-related projects. Registration is from 8:30 until 9:10 a.m. and the cost is $3 at the door. Questions should be directed to Cheryl Willis Patten at [email protected].

The meal deadline was July 19, but if you make immediate contact at [email protected] it might still be possible to order lunch. Anyone is welcome to bring their own lunch.

Photography contest exhibit

ANDOVER — The Andover Photography Contest will be exhibited on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Town Hall.

Photographs are placed into two groups: children 17 and under and adults 18 and older.

The five categories are portrait, landscape, animal, Photoshop and black-and-white.

Entrants can submit three photos per category for a maximum of 15 total.

Photographs can be submitted from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 29 through Aug. 1. Each photograph must have artist’s name and town printed on the reverse.

MEXICO — Mexico High School Class of 1949 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Dick’s Restaurant. Members and friends are welcome

Super hero party is Aug. 1

MEXICO — As part of the Mexico Public Library’s summer programs for kids, the library will host a Super Hero party for both boys and girls ages 3 to 12, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Calvin Lyons Hall, in the basement of the Mexico Town Hall building.

Super hero costumes are greatly encouraged, although not required.

There will be super hero games and activities. Super hero snacks will be served. A mystery super hero will be at the party. Attendees may have their pictures taken with him if they wish. He will also give super hero tips on anti-bullying.

Everyone who attends in costume may enter their name in a gift drawing. For information call the library at 364-3281.
