WINTHROP — Singer-songwriter David Mallett will entertain with American folk music at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Winthrop Performing Arts Center, 211 Rambler Road.

Mallett is best known as the composer of “The Garden Song” which inspired Winthrop’s Inch by Inch Garden project and is an American folk classic. Mallett grew up in Dover-Foxcroft, and in a career that spans four decades, his music has traveled to all corners of the world. His songs have been recorded by more than 150 artists including Pete Seeger, Alison Krauss, John Denver, Emmylou Harris and the Muppets.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Bailey Library expansion project which is well over the half-million dollar mark, according to Library Board Chair Mary-Jane Auns.

Before the concert and at intermission concert-goers will have an opportunity to learn about the expansion which will complement the existing 1916 library. An architectural model of the new addition will be on display. The planned addition will provide space for technology, events and quiet reading and study areas, as well as a public meeting room, according to Library Director Richard Fortin.
