BUCKFIELD — “Have you ever felt like taking a sledge hammer to something?” Town Manager Dana Lee asked.
A new activity on Community Day will be the opportunity to take a sledge hammer to a wrecked car, donated by Jeremy Freve. There will be two cars to whack.
The Community Day Committee met on Tuesday to plan for the big Labor Day event. Members of the committee are Ben and Karen Lovejoy, Eileen Hotham, Ralph Hart, Joan Abrams and Lee.
Lee said he had sent 77 letters to possible donors to help with expenses and more letters to possible parade participants. Lee said that anyone interested in being in the parade should contact the town office.
“Honoring Our Veterans” is the theme of this year’s Community Day. “We want all veterans to feel free to come and march. If you can’t march, we’ll get you a ride,” said Hart, who is Commander of American Legion Post 58.
“You can come in a group or alone,” Lee said.
“Vendors are needed for selling spaces on the ball field behind the Municipal building after the parade,” Lee said. There is a small fee, and those interested need to contact the Town office to reserve a spot. Lee said he sent 19 letters to businesses. Spaces are already reserved for crafts, lots of food and a mystic.
“There will also be the annual duck race,” Lee said, though he wasn’t sure who would be selling tickets and running the race. Lee added that more helpers are needed.
