JAY — Selectpersons voted Monday to have the diamond plate on the Fire Department’s 1997 E-1 ladder truck refurbished and to have some rust repaired and painted, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Tuesday.

Larry White Sr., public safety director, had requested quotes from two Jay businesses, she said. One could not do it, she said.

The other, Hilltop Collision Center, quoted a price of $970 to refurbish the diamond plate and $2,451 to repair the rust and repaint the affected area on the truck.

The money will come out of the department’s capital reserve account, she said.

In other business, selectpersons voted to donate $200 to the Lac-Megantic Relief Fund. The money will come out of the board’s contingency fund.

The board also asked to see a legal opinion that was requested years ago regarding a non-user of the Jay Village Water District being a trustee, Cushman said.

There is a resident that is a non-user who currently serves on the North Jay Water District Board of Trustees. The opinion does not cover that district, she said.

Selectpersons voted to appoint Jerry Hutchinson on June 24. He is not a user of the water district.

In other business, the board voted to go with Androscoggin Bank to borrow up to $865,000 in interim financing at an interest rate of 1.14 percent for the second phase of the Route 4 sewer project.

Residents will vote on borrowing the money for sewer work to be done in conjunction with the state’s road construction project at a special town meeting on Aug. 26. The state is planning to reconstruct about 1.25 miles of the road from Pineau Street north to just south of Tweedie Street.

Phase One of the project stopped at Pineau Street.

The board will hold its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the Town Office. Prior to that, at 6 p.m., Fire Department Appreciation will be held at the North Jay Fire Station.
