He who journeys to Lewiston next week expecting to buy tickets on the horses is doomed to disappointment, deep and lasting! It matters not that the past two years Augusta has permitted the open sale of pools during race meets, Lewiston won’t stand for them, that is to say Sheriff Stevens of Androscoggin County and Chief of Police McCarron and Deputy Chief Davis of the Lewiston Police Department wont permit such carryings on in this city. The ban on pool selling applies to rooms in hotels and other resorts, as much as it does out on the open lawns of the state fairground.

Whew, it’s hot! That was the expression of the day in Lewiston-Auburn as the thermometer hit 95 degrees, its highest mark this year, and tied the record temperature for the day. While the heat seemed unpleasant to just about everyone, at least one elderly gentleman paid little attention to the brilliant sunshine and humidity. He took his afternoon stroll wearing a flannel shirt, wool suit, and tweed topcoat, and completed hs outfit with a felt hat. Others were more conscious of the weather, however, and it was reported that several persons at a local show company had to be treated for heat exhaustion.

The historic Worumbo Miill was destroyed by fire a year ago, but a chance find at the Lisbon Falls Community Library will preserve a part of it for future generations. While cleaning a closet, librarians found an old manila envelope containing film identified as made-for-TV footage of the Worumbo Mill. The film shows Oliver Moses III, president of the mill, taking a man through the mill to view the process of making wool products. Several other workers were identified in the film, including Arthur “Tuffy” Reynolds, Otto Stewich, John Dinsmore, John Meehan, Stetson Plummer and George Gerguson.
