PARIS — The Paris Public Library will be hosting their annual used book sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturdays of July 27, Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 to raise money for the library’s children’s collection.

The book sale will be held at the Old Paris Farmers’ Union building at the corner of Main Street and Skilling Avenue on Route 26.

Library Director Mike Dignan, who has worked at the Paris Public Library for 20 years, said that the used book sale has been held “longer than I’ve been at the library,” and typically has been the largest fundraiser for the library.

Hardcover books will be on sale for $1 each on July 27 and Aug. 3, with trade paperbacks on sale for 50 cents, mass market paperbacks for 25 cents and VHS tapes for 50 cents. On Aug. 10, Dignan said that the library will be hosting a bag sale, where those attending can fill a plastic grocery bag with sale items for only $1.

“All the books that we have for sale come via donations,” Dignan said. “They aren’t library discards. People will come in throughout the year and drop off books or VHS tapes they don’t want.”

All proceeds will go towards purchasing new books for the children’s collection.

“At the library, books are our purpose and we can never have enough of them,” Dignan said. “We always get a high level of requests for adult books and we want to make sure that the children get as many books as they can get.”

Dignan said that last year’s book sale raised more than $2,800 for the library.
