HARRISON — A South Portland man was killed in an early morning crash after his car struck a tree, according to Captain Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher C. Pierce, 32, was found shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday by a passing motorist near the intersection of Waterford Road and Rolfe Road, Goulet said.
According to the motorist, Pierce’s 2008 Kia Spectra was found crashed into a tree while the motorist was driving north on Waterford Road.
The Harrison Fire Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were the first to respond, along with EMS personnel. Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene.
After a preliminary investigation, police suspect that Pierce lost control while driving and hit the tree, though they remain unsure if speed or some other factor was involved.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Goulet said that the accident remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff Office’s Accident Recon Team and Detective Bureau.
