LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Barbara McAlister Kennedy, 85, beloved wife of the late Bruce Kennedy, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13.

Mrs. Kennedy had strong roots in the state of Maine. She grew up and was educated in the Portland area, lived in Livermore Falls and worked for the International Paper Company for many years.

In 1986, she and her husband, Bruce, moved to Virginia to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Mrs. Kennedy served as a volunteer librarian in the Prince William Library System, and is lovingly remembered by her friends and colleagues. She also spent many wonderful vacations with her children and grandchildren in Lake Anna, Va.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her devoted daughter, Kathleen Herer and son-in-law, Paul Herer, of Woodbridge, Va.; she is lovingly remembered by her brother, Arthur McAlister; sister, Agnes McAlister Crooke; two grandchildren, David and Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Kennedy; and brother, Herbert McAlister.
