SOUTH PARIS — Dorothy Anne Major, 100, of Norway died Wednesday, July 24, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in New York City, May 25, 1913, the daughter of Arthur and Annie Smith Major. Her family moved when she was young to Fort Lee, N.J., where she attended school and graduated from Fort Lee High School.

She graduated from Middlebury College and later received her master’s degree in education from Rutgers University. She spent 38 years in education, teaching girls’ physical education in junior and senior high schools and supervising in elementary schools in Fort Lee, Leonia and Ridgewood, all in New Jersey.

Having spent summers in Maine, she moved to Maine in retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Universalist Church in South Paris and the Browning Reading Club.

She is survived by nephew, William Schmitt and wife, Audrey, of Beach Lake, Pa..; niece, Marion Barnes and husband, John, of Elma, N.Y.; and many more nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Grace; and two brothers, Alfred and Henry.
