OXFORD — The Uptown Cruizahs will be celebrating their fifth annual auto show Sunday, Aug. 4, at the New Balance Factory Store on Route 26, where participants will vote for their favorite cars in 27 different categories.

Vice President Dan Tripp said that the club has been around for five years and was born out of a mutual desire for a local car club that residents from different towns could join.

“We were just a bunch of guys that liked cars and figured we should try and get a car club started again,” Tripp said Friday morning. “There used to be a club in the area, but it was short-lived. We figured that we’d give it a whirl again.”

Registration for the auto show will last from 7:30 to 11 a.m. and will cost $5. The show will consist of 27 different categories that range from antique automobiles to present-day cars.

“Each year, before the show, we all go through the different types of cars and figure out what categories we want to showcase,” Tripp said. “This year, we’ll have a category for Chevys, one for cars from the 60s, one for two-wheel-drive trucks and another for four-wheel-drive trucks.”

Tripp laughed and added, “It can get kind of confusing after awhile, but we get a wide variety of cars by doing it this way.”

After registration, residents will have the opportunity to view the cars and those participating in the show will have until 12:30 p.m. to vote for their favorite cars in each category. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.

“There will be prizes for first, second and third place winners in each category,” Tripp said. “We actually have local businesses sponsoring certain categories, and the winners will get trophies after the vote.”

Food will be sold and President Les Wing will be providing music under the moniker “Red Wing.”

Prior to the Aug. 4 auto show, the Uptown Cruizahs will host their weekly cruise night at Tractor Supply in Oxford, where Tripp said they will “cook hamburgers and hot dogs” and allow residents to showcase their cars. Donations will be accepted, with the proceeds from the cruise night and the auto show benefiting local charities.

“We try to keep the money local,” Tripp said. “We donate some money to the veterans’ home. We’ve donated money to Responsible Pet Care and to the Christmas for Kids program. We try to help a lot of different groups.”

The Uptown Cruizahs are made up of nearly 100 members from several different towns, including Naples, West Paris, Norway and Oxford, Tripp explained.
