DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for reading my July 9 letter about my father’s missing class ring and for all the help you give us.

I will try to explain. When my oldest son graduated from Edward Little High School in 1978, my father gave him his Livermore Falls High School ring. He was proud of his ring and of my son. My father was the only one in the family to go to high school.

The day my son received the ring, he and his brother and their uncle stopped at Britten Pond to swim. When they came out of the water, his ring was not on his finger. They looked for it until dark.

In 1986 or 1987 a lady that I knew, Mrs. Porland, phoned me and said someone was at her house and had a LFHS class ring with the letters AVJ inside it. My father’s name was Alton Vergal Jones. This ring was found at Britten Pond.

Mrs. Porland gave me a phone number to call, because this man was looking for the owner. I called the number and left a message with my telephone number. No one called me back.

I was too afraid to bother the person and did not call them back. Today I have gotten strong and I would call them back.

If any of the people who look for metal now might have heard about a ring being found at the pond about 1986-1987, it would mean a lot to me and my children if I could once again have my father’s ring.

I tried looking for the Arsenaults in the phone book, but they were not listed. — Ceneretta Ward, Jay

ANSWER: In her answer to your previous letter, Sun Spots also noted that the Arsenaults were not in the phone book. But she is not sure that matters. Metal detector operators are not likely to be of much help in this situation.

The person who found the ring may not even had a metal detector. Even if he did, that was nearly 30 years ago. It’s unlikely that those operating metal detectors now would be aware of it.

Perhaps the person who found the ring never got your message, or came upon hard times and pawned it. Or perhaps it is simply in the bottom of a bureau drawer somewhere.

Sun Spots is so sorry that your treasured possession was lost. She is afraid you are unlikely to be reunited with it. But perhaps a miracle will occur and a reader who knows where it is will see this letter.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Like so many others, I, too, read and enjoy Sun Spots every day. Thank you.

The Phillips Class of 1963 is having its 50th class reunion on Aug. 16. We’ll be riding on a float at the Old Home Days Parade, then eating at the Country Delight in Avon.

We’ve been unable to find Mary Ellen (Currier) Reiser and hope someone out there can help us. Contact Paul Gardiner at 684-3394 if you have any information. A fun time is expected! — Barbara Gardiner, Avon
