1916 – 2013
HARTFORD — John Gordon Dyke, 96, of Hartford, died early Tuesday morning at the home he built for his wife and children in Hartford.
He was born in Canton on Nov. 16, 1916, a son of Perley and Maude Dyke. He received his education in Jay and Livermore Falls schools. On Sept. 24, 1938, he married Jean M. Farrand in Livermore, who passed on May 26, 2012, after 73 years together.
John was a farmer for many years and was a well-known carpenter. He loved to garden and give vegetables to his family and neighbors. He enjoyed building and remodeling, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son, John L. Dyke and his wife, Rose, of Dixfield; a daughter, Linda M. Green and her husband, Richard, of Hartford; grandchildren, John L. Dyke, Matthew Dyke, Jason Dyke, Amanda Dyke, Aaron Green, Melissa Curit and Valorie Wimmer; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
John was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Lawrence, William, Chester, Harold and George; sisters, Earstine, Frances, Madaline and Maude; and a grandson, Christopher Dyke.
