Twin Town Nature Club to meet

OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in the Walmart parking lot, south side near Route 26, to travel to Popham Beach State Park to swim, picnic and view sea birds.

Bring lunch. Visitors are welcome.

Book reading at Paris Public Library

PARIS —The Paris Public Library will host a reading of The Boy Who Harnesses the Wind, by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, in the children’s room.

This is a true story about the author who was brought up in drought-ridden Malawi, Africa. At the age of 14, William became a hero to his village by creating a way to pump water out of the ground, with little to nothing to work with.

Children will also listen to Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain, by Verna Aardema, an African folktale about another boy hero who provided water for his drought-stricken home.

Summer bazaar at St. Joeseph’s

BRIDGTON — A summer bazaar will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. Joesph’s Church Parish Hall, 225 South High St.

There will be baked goods, crafts, jewelry, a white elephant sale, and lunch. Raffle items include a pair of kayaks and a fiberglass canoe. Assorted vendors will have their own craft tables.

The bazaar is hosted by the St. Joseph Women’s Guild.
