LEWISTON — As the Center for Wisdom’s Women approaches its fifth anniversary of being open independent of the founders, it has been offered a matching gift by one of the center’s SHEROs.
In honor of her mother and mother-in-law, the anonymous woman has pledge $5,000 annually for three years and will match up to 20 new SHERO gifts. If the goal is reached by year’s end, the donor will throw in the last $200, making the gift an additional even $5,000.
A SHERO is a group or an individual who donates at least $1 a day that the center is open. That averages five days a week, which is $240 a year or more. Some SHEROs pledge the $240 gift in monthly payments, others give quarterly or annually.
SHEROs are the backbone of the center’s development plan, with the final goal of reaching 250 SHEROs annually. The gift and challenge is intended to help the center reach that target.
A SHERO can be a business, a church, a club or study group as well as an individual. Each person or group that becomes a SHERO is given a badge to wear to help them spread the word about the center. When a donation is made in honor of a woman, the center will send a Wisdom Box to that woman.
A fifth anniversary open house and celebration is being planned for Saturday, Dec. 7. Contact Director Klara Tammany at 513-3922 for more information.
