ROCKLAND — A diver was found dead following a search of Rockland Harbor, city police confirmed.
The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
The search began around 10 a.m. and involved the U.S. Coast Guard, Maine Marine Patrol, Rockland police and Rockland emergency crews. The search centered on Journey’s End Marina which is adjacent to the Rockland Coast Guard station.
The search was called off shortly before 4 p.m. when the diver’s body was found, Rockland police Sgt. Kenneth Smith said.
A U.S. Coast Guard official confirmed the search was called off but referred all questions to the Maine Marine Patrol. The Marine Patrol said more information would be released later in the day.
