Film ‘Collapse’ to be aired

NORWAY — Chris Smith’s film, “Collapse,” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St. A potluck will be available at 6 p.m.

The film’s subject is Michael Ruppert. In books, television commentary and film appearances, this investigative reporter has covered a bevy of grim scenarios: peak oil and the shattering of industrialized society, home-grown causes of 9/11, financial chicanery and CIA drug dealing.

The film consists of interviews with Ruppert and footage from news archives. Film director Smith said the title refers as much to Ruppert’s own collapse as to the collapse of society that Ruppert portrayed.

NORWAY — A public interest forum on reflections of immigration with Anne Pilsbury will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St.

Legislation on immigration is stalled in Congress. Some 12 million U.S. residents lack documents. Anne Pilsbury left her legal practice in Norway to build Central American Legal Assistance in Brooklyn. The office serves clients, most of whom are migrants from Central America, who are fighting deportation or abuse at the hands of U.S. officials.

Pilsbury’s presentation will shed light on migrants’ lives. Attendees will gain insight into why people cross borders and what happens to them.

Discussion will follow the presentation. Refreshments will be available.
