It was a merry family party, which “put up” at the Elm House, Auburn, for dinner, Thursday noon, and it caused no little interest among those who had the pleasure of witnessing either the arrival or the departure of Parson Tuttle and his caravan. For the last three weeks, Rev. Mr. Tuttle and his family have been enjoying an outing at Buckfield and were on their way to Pownal. They made the trip to and from Buckfield by team … or rather by three teams. Along beside the first team trotted a cunning little colt. Traveling with the second team was a handsome pussy cat, while the two great and beautiful Danes kept pace with the third team. It was truly an interesting sight.

The city of Lewiston will have a full-fledged nine-hole golf course next spring, it was learned last night. Arthur Chapman Jr., owner of Prospect Hill Golf Course in Auburn said that he intends to construct the new course on the Pine Woods Road about three miles from the Maine Turnpike cutoff. He said he could call the Lewiston course the “Apple Valley Golf Course.” The 3,200-yard course will feature a variety of greens. Chapman said four of the holes will be affected by a pond situated on the land.

Lewiston library trustees decided Thursday to explore further the possibility of a joint venture with the Auburn Public Library, but only after an hour spent shaking heads and worrying over whether Auburn city officials would support such a project. The discussion began more than two weeks ago, when Auburn trustees offered the idea at a joint meeting. The proposal comes at a time when both libraries are suffering growing pains, and Lewiston officials are considering the construction of an entirely new public library. And all of that, some Lewiston trustees said, complicates the issue of a joint venture of any kind.
