PERU — The Worthley Pond Association will be hosting their seventh annual golf tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Oakdale Country Club to help raise money for water quality preservation.

WPA member Sherri Clement said that the tournament began about seven years ago after her husband, along with members Dennis Gallant, Dave Clement and Tim Placey, attempted to create a tournament that would help raise money for the association to put towards the preservation of Worthley Pond’s water quality.

“We try to keep the water as pure as possible at Worthley Pond,” Clement said. “It costs money to have the pond water tested. An outside company comes in, looks at the value of the houses, at the purity of the water, which helps our community. Nobody wants to visit a pond filled with milfoil.”

The tournament is open to the public and costs $25 to participate. Clement said that depending on the number of participants, the tournament will consist of around “18 to 20 teams of four people” with the winning team taking home prize money, while other teams have the opportunity to win a number of different prizes.

Clement said more information on the tournament is available by calling 562-4611.
