The Lewiston police have again been notified that the purloining of quarters from the gas meters in the basements of several Lewiston residences is still going on. The work was at one time thought to be the result of a cleverly laid system of robbery but as the time went on and the losses occurred in the same neighborhood, the first theory gave way to the opinion that the thieving has been done by boys. The meters are not broken in the majority of cases, but a key is used. The police have had persons sunder surveillance and have questioned many but have not obtained evidence to warrant arrests.

Auburn City Manager Woodbury E. Brackett said yesterday that the City Farm, which he had expected to close late this summer, will remain in operation. Brackett indicated that the main reason for the decision was because no alternative means has been found to conduct garbage collections in the city. At the present time the collections are made by the City Farm residents. The city manager indicated any other means would be extremely costly and a solution to the problem has not been reached as yet.
