FARMINGTON —   The Farmington Rotary Club and the Homestead Bakery Restaurant are sponsoring a benefit dinner for the victims of the Lac-Megantic tragedy on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway train derailment and explosion on July 6 killed 47 residents and left many homeless. When the runaway train carrying crude oil derailed, it exploded in the center of Lac-Megantic.

At the benefit dinner, Rotary Club members will serve a pasta dinner with freshly made sauces and breads from the Homestead Bakery. There will two be seatings, at 5 and 7 p.m. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

The meal cost is $15 for adults and $10 for those 12 and younger.

Tickets are available at Franklin Savings Bank’s Loan Center, the Homestead, 778-6162, or from any Farmington Rotary Club member.

All funds will benefit the Lac-Megantic relief effort now under way through the Rotary Foundation.

Among other relief efforts, a Farmington-sponsored effort has raised more than $23,000, said Farmington Town Manager Richard Davis.
