LEWISTON — The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association has announced the successful completion of the third annual “Burgers, Bikes & Rods” rally to support Kieve’s Veterans Camp.
With more than 80 motorcycles and 15 hot rods, the July 27 ride started at L-A Harley Davidson and ran through Sabattus and Gardiner on Route 126 before ending at Kieve’s Wavus Campus in Jefferson.
The CVMA mission is to support veterans or their families. Members are veterans of all branches of the military who have deployed in wars ranging from Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. The CVMA is not a motorcycle club, but a tax-exempt nonprofit 501-C-19 that raises money for a number of veteran-related causes.
The benefit raised more than $4,200 to help cover some of the costs of veterans and their families to attend Kieve’s Veterans Camp on Damariscotta Lake.
Veterans Camp Director Nancy Kennedy said, “We are grateful to the CVMA and all of the community members that turned out to support this run and in turn our veterans camp.”
Over the past three years Kieve’s Veterans Camp has completed numerous week-long programs for veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, Vietnam, and a special week for women veterans.
A pre-ride breakfast was provided.
L-A Harley’s managing partner John Story said, “I feel very strongly about all the servicemen and women that serve our country. They risk it all and are too soon forgotten and we should all do whatever we can to honor their service to our nation.”
In addition to lakeside relaxing after the ride, there was a cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs at Wavus Camp for Girls on Damariscotta Lake.
Ride coordinator Steve Spooner said “I am thrilled at the sponsors and rider support for this year’s ride.”
