PARIS — The Oxford Hills RIF Programs (Reading is Fundamental) celebrated another successful read-a-thon for SAD 17 students grades kindergarten through six by raising more than $13,000.
An ice cream social was held to recognize this year’s outstanding read-a-thon participants. 115 students were invited for either raising $50 or more or being a top place reader in the district. This is the largest number invited in many years.
Awards were given for top pledges and readers in the district. Top readers for grades kindergarten to three: first, Tayanita McAllister, Oxford; second, Abigail Clark, Rowe; third, Tori Hall, Oxford.
Grades four to six: first, Abby Steeves, Paris; second, Zack Wilson, Paris; third, Jessica Bickford, Oxford.

The local business community have been supportive of the RIF program, which provides three free books for 2,000 students in the district. Participation in the read-a-thon makes that possible.
Each school relies on volunteers to hand out books three times a year.
