DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just wanted to know when you would post a birth that was on July 3? I have been watching the website, but either the website or the newspaper would work. I just want to save the clipping. — Brittney, [email protected]

ANSWER: Birth announcements are sent to the Sun Journal (often by fax), typed and then placed in the paper as space allows. There is no regular schedule for them, and the Sun Journal has no control over when they are sent.

Once your announcement appears in the newspaper (you should be able to check on the website as well as look in the actual newspaper), if you want to purchase additional papers or get a laminated copy, contact customer service at 800-482-0759, ext. 1181.

The office at 104 Park St. in Lewiston is open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Current subscribers can purchase five additional copies at half price. Nonsubscribers are charged full price.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My son Timothy made the dean’s list at Worcester Polytechnic Institute last semester and I was wondering if it was ever listed in the Sun Journal? If so, would it be possible to get a copy of the article? — Curtis, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots found that posting at sunjournal.com/news/well-done/0001/11/30/well-done-students-honored-achievements/1368524.

As with the previous query, this information is published on an as-received, as-space-allows basis. This also applies to court records, such as divorces and criminal sentencing.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are the answers to Mystery Photo” published? If so, where and/or when can they be found? Thanks. — Trudy Haines, [email protected]

ANSWER: The answer to each previous week’s query appears next to the new mystery photo in the b section each Sunday. The answers also appear online, but according to Sun Journal Web editor Carl Natale, there is no directory for mystery photos.

“You need to scroll through those stories to see the mystery photos. And, unfortunately, they aren’t archived in an easy-to-retrieve way.

“The most recent mystery photo can be found at sunjournal.com/section/archive/2065/2013-08-11

“That shows everything from Sunday. The previous Sunday is at sunjournal.com/section/archive/2065/2013-08-04

“So basically the photos can be found by changing the date in the URL. Sorry there’s not a better way.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is your newspaper a continuation of the Lewiston Evening Journal that was published in 1920? I have been reading it online, but it is not possible to print out an article about the first Maine Legislature.

I am wondering if there is a place in Maine where I can read some of the older papers in person and possibly copy sections. Here is a link to the paper I referred to: http://tinyurl.com/qe4jozv — Judy Calise, [email protected]

ANSWER: The Sun Journal is indeed a “continuation” of the Evening Journal (and the Daily Sun, which merged in 1988).

As for printing from the Google archive, Sun Spots gets this question regularly. Unfortunately, Google does not have a printing function. If you are technically adept, you can work around the limitation. Sun Spots addressed the technique in a previous column: “Google archive printing possible, not easy” (http://tinyurl.com/3ufnme3).

The other option is the Lewiston Public Library, which has a fairly complete microfiche of the papers back to the 1860s, from which you can print. You can visit them online at http://lplonline.org/, call 207-513-3004 or go to the library at 200 Lisbon St., Lewiston, ME 04240.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have an advertisement to submit. How do I do that? Suzanne, [email protected]

ANSWER: You can call classified advertising at 783-2281 or toll free 1-800-482-0935, or email [email protected].
