1942 – 2013

TOGUS — David Porter Stowell, 71, of South Paris, died of natural causes at Togus Veterans’ Hospital hospice service on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

David was born in Lewiston on July 14, 1942, and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel. He was in the 69th Signal Battalion of the U.S. Army for two years. His time of service as a radio operator in Vietnam earned him the Vietnam Service medal. He attended Tufts University and Nasson College, and was in the U.S. Army Reserves, being discharged in 1970.

David worked at Stowell Wood Products in administration for many years, until its closure. He loved baseball and followed the Red Sox avidly. He also loved to follow horse racing and in later years collected several sports cars.

His three remaining siblings include Sally Tessicini and her husband, Cid, of Sarasota, Fla., Sylvia Hauzenblas of Bryant Pond and Sandra Seaver of Bethel. David had nine nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and -nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Holly Sanborn. They had 33 years together before she died in 2008. David was also predeceased by his parents, H. Kirke and Tressa M. Stowell of Bryant Pond, as well as his brother, Dexter Stowell of Bethel.

David’s mission in life was to faithfully care for his wife for more than 20 years after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. David was known to be kind and considerate by all who knew him, and available to help others.
