1931 – 2013

LEWISTON — James H. Miller, 81, of Maine Street in Poland, died Thursday, Aug. 15, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his loving family at his side after a sudden illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 7, 1931, a son of the late James and Alice (Albison) Miller. James married the love of his life, the former Virginia Ames, on Feb. 1, 1951, in Lewiston. He worked as a salesmen for many years at L&A Tire and later went on to be a manager at VIP.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn, UCT, a lifetime supporter, past board and past president of Auburn Suburban Little Leauge, and was a longtime member of Martindale Country Club. He enjoyed watching his Red Sox and Patriots, and people-watching. He also enjoyed spending the winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. James truly loved children, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Virginia Miller of Poland; a son, James Miller and wife, Carol, of Auburn; two daughters, Kelli Ouellette of Poland and Jodi Bennett and husband, Tony, of Mechanic Falls; five grandchildren, Mauri Dufour and husband, Jay, James “Joey” Miller and wife, Kristen, Matthew Ouellette and wife, Bethany, Marissa Jordan and husband, James, and Bryton Bennett; nine great-grandchildren; a stepsister, Corrine Bolduc; and three stepbrothers, Harold, Thomas and Edward Caldwell.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Labbe; a brother, Richard Dube; and a stepsister, Irene Bennett.
