NORWAY — Shirli Allen-Heald invites children in grades one to six to register for the second season of the Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop.
Registration for the free workshop will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the music room of the Second Congregational Church, UCC, across from the Rowe School.
From September through early March, workshops will be held each Wednesday from 3:15-4:30 p.m. at the church. Thanks to the continued support of the church, there is no cost for attendance. But as in all productions, dedication to the production and faithful attendance is of importance.
The children will investigate the process of show production and stage performance as they prepare to present the musical, “Bebop With Aesop,” by Michael and Jill Gallina. The one-act play features five Aesop fables in dialogue and song.
The weekly workshops will also provide an opportunity for children to rehearse and perform a musical number in the ninth annual Christmastide Concert in December.
Allen-Heald and production assistant, Kate Wood of Otisfield, are looking forward to helping develop the youngsters’ talents as they learn how to become performers and supporters of the arts.
Allen, local performer, music director of the Second Congregational Church, and owner/ teacher at The Growing Place Day School, states, “I am very excited to continue this project. Last year was a very successful building year. This year’s group will be enhanced with the confidence of children returning for a second year and the energy of new members. Aesop’s unforgettable fables should act as a great vehicle to emphasize lessons and values that contribute to meaningful character building while the children explore their natural talents.”
