1947 – 2013

OXFORD — Karol E. Martin lost her battle with cancer at home on Tuesday, Aug. 13, with her family by her side.

She was born in Auburn on July 13, 1947, the daughter of Viola F. (Lancaster) and Winfield M. Bowie Sr. Karol graduated from Auburn schools and received her C.N.A. certificate. She was employed at Point Sebago for 20 years, retiring in 2005.

Karol loved being with her family and friends, and having coffee time. She enjoyed the outdoors, yard sales, going to the casino and watching football.

Karol married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Gary Martin, on Nov. 14, 1964. Together they raised four loving children, Duane Martin of Oxford, Bruce Martin of Oxford, Carol Anne Martin of Oxford and Lisa Martin of Gray; she had six grandchildren, Bruce Martin, Crystal Martin, Julia Martin, Adrianna Martin, Haylee Hopkins and Grayson Foster; and one great-granddaughter, Kadence Farrar.

She is survived by her brother, Win of Donegal, Ireland; Marion Bourgoin, and Greene and Janice Martin of Oxford.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2005; as well as her parents; sister, Virginia; and brothers, Merton and Ronald.
