OTISFIELD – Town officials have erected a sign on the entry door of the new town garage to acknowledge decades of service by Road Commissioner Richard Bean.

“He was ‘Mr. Otisfield’ for years, and still is to some extent. He’s been very, very dedicated for over 60 years,” Selectman Len Adler said.

Officials held an open house and dedication of the new town garage in May and recently hung the sign that reads, “The Richard Bean Sr. Municipal Garage” on the door of the building near the town transfer station on Station Road.

Last year, voters approved spending nearly $400,000 to build the garage. A $371,797 contract was awarded by selectmen on Aug. 1, 2012. The town had been planning to build a garage for almost two years.

Adler said Bean has served the town for decades in a number of capacities, including Oxford Hills School District director, selectman, fire chief and various committees.

“For many years, when help was needed or an emergency, the answer has been, ‘Call Richard,’ and he has never refused,” Adler said. He has given “unending service to this town.”
