A friend of mine who was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer was refused disability and must work to live, which brings me to my friend’s story.

Most people who receive a monthly welfare check from the state of Maine have free medical, free prescriptions, food stamps, low to almost free housing, heating assistance and some get a large ($2,000) income tax check back, plus rental rebate checks. And, let’s not forget the Maine Universal Service Fund that helps low income people pay their phone bills.

What does the state do for working people?

The state of Maine has already given all this to them, while there are families facing foreclosure with two people working trying to hold it together.

It does not seem right when the working class get poorer and those on state programs have not a worry in the world.
