1930 – 2013

BOXFORD, Mass. — Constance C. (Green) Bernard, 82, of Boxford, Mass., and formerly of Maine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 17, in Boxford surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Gordon and Berta (Mahlmann) Green. She married Jim Bernard, the love of her life, after having attended Lewiston High School together.

Connie was an avid painter and gardener for many years, and she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sewing and making beautiful heirloom quilts. She was dedicated to her family and loved to attend all family events and gatherings. She enjoyed watching every athletic event in which her children participated, including football, hockey, basketball and track and field. She loved the outdoors, camping with her family, her swimming pool and spending time with her husband, Jim, as he pursued his love of fishing.

Always ready with a story and a laugh, Connie was beloved by her family.

Her surviving family members include her loving children, Dana E. Bernard and his wife, Kathleen, of Bradford, Mass., and Jeffrey M. Bernard and his wife, Janet, of Concord, Mass.; grandchildren, Elizabeth D. Bernard, Edward R. Bernard and Andrew J. Bernard; sister, Jeanne M. Hood of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

Connie was predeceased by her dear husband, James E. Bernard, along with two of their sons, Jimmy Jay Bernard and Steven J. Bernard. She was the sister of the late Donald S. Green and Joanne M. Novick; and sister in-law of the late William J. Hood Sr., and Joseph Novick.
