AUGUSTA —  Denise Adams, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) II, and Barbara Watkins, housekeeping staff, were recognized for their outstanding work by Maine Veterans’ Homes at a statewide awards ceremony on July 26 at the Calumet Club. Adams and Watkins work at MVH in South Paris and were two of six employees from around the state to receive recognition.

“Barbie and Denise are always there for our residents,” said Joel Dutton, MVH-South Paris administrator. “From the moment a resident walks in our doors, Barbie treats them with respect and dignity, helping them in so many important ways. Denise does the same and she is a constant advocate for our residents while doing so many things behind the scenes.”

MVH’s annual awards recognizes staff in six categories based on its core values of Lead the Way, Honesty & Integrity, Veterans are Unique, Excellence, Respect and Team.

Adams received the award for Honesty & Integrity and Watkins received the award for Respect. Both of their nominations contained heartfelt stories that were shared by Dutton during the ceremony.

“It is a real honor to have our employees recognized like this,” said Dutton. “It reflects the caliber of employees we have at the South Paris home and it illustrates our dedication to caring for our veterans.”

The award winners were each recognized on stage in front of approximately 100 in attendance, ranging from their peers to representatives from veterans service organizations, such as the VFW and American Legion.

Each winner received a check for $250 and a plaque recognizing their efforts. The facility of the winner also receives a perpetual plaque to display throughout the year, also recognizing the winner.

MVH has six homes located in Augusta, Bangor, Caribou, Machias, Scarborough, and South Paris, and employs approximately 1,100 staff. For more information, contact Jeff Roosevelt at 430-4473.
