GREENE — Annual Greene Village Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 24.
The Opening Dedication Ceremony will be held at 8:45 a.m. at the Vets Memorial Area, on the Greene Town Office Lawn. The ceremony will be dedicated to town veterans and to Brenda Theriault, 2013 Parade Grand Marshall, for her many years of selfless volunteer work for people of the Town of Greene.
The ceremony will be hosted by The Greene Boy Scouts, with Scout Leader Mark Sullivan. James Witheral will sing the National Anthem, and “Taps” will be played by Larry Wonch on his trumpet, in dedication to the the casualties and survivors of 9/11.
The parade will have two $50 cash prizes, for Best In Parade and Judges’ Favorite Vintage Vehicle. It begins at 9 a.m., with line-up at 8:30. The Greene Senior Citizens will give away free green helium balloons to the kids and the Greene Daisy Troop will throw candy to the crowd from their float.
The parade runs from the town office to Greene Central School on Main Street. Register by phone this year, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days, at 946-4850.
Festivities are at the Androscoggin Grange Hall’s section of Main Street. No admission charge to get in. Free parking is available on Recreation Drive, Greene Central School or Farris Equipment on Route 202.
Handicapped and elderly parking will be behind the Greene Baptist Church and Julia Morse Public Library, near the Grange Hall. Handicapped access will be provided to bathrooms and to the magic shows at the Grange Hall.
Kids all-day activity bracelets are $5. There will be new carnival games for $1 each or seven for $5, with prizes.
There will be two magic shows at 10:30 and 12:30 with Ken Edwards. Steve Corning, juggler and street performer, will perform from 10 a.m. to noon. “Bill & Ben” the “Facebook Famous” horse team will provide free covered wagon rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other events will include Dick Clark’s “Toot ‘n Chug” Railroad, Josh Turner, a chainsaw artist, Oakhill Farms pony rides, Army National Grange radar-checked baseball pitching, “Bosco” the Wonder Dog and Officer John Guay of the Androscoggin Sheriff Department’s Canine Unit, a demonstration by Pelletier Karate-Do, and Amazing Baby, Women’s Skillet Toss and Men’s Nail Driving contests.

Greene merchants donated raffle items for the big silent auction. Two chainsaw art statues by Josh Turner will be raffled. There will be a 50/50, crafts, music and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company will provide parents with samples of kids’ fingerprints for free.
Affordably priced fresh-cut French fries, roasted red hot dogs, pizza slices, homemade bake sale items, fried sugared dough, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and cold drinks will be served all day.
