AUGUSTA — Howard S. Hannon, 78, of Windsor Road in Chelsea, died Aug. 20, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive, Augusta, after an extended illness.

He was born in Lewiston on March 26, 1935, the son of Dwight “Bo” Hannon and Frances (McGlinchey) Hannon.

Howard was a graduate of Levitt High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for a total of 21 years, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He had been employed by Sears Roebuck as a repairman for 15 years. Hannon was a former member of the Masons and past president of the Maine Snowmobile Association.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy (Sherwood) Barrows, of Augusta; his sister, Hope Allen and her husband, Robert, of Naples, Fla.; two stepsons, Scott Barrows and his fiancée, Nancy Thompson, of Manchester and Peter Barrows and his significant other, Danny Breault, of Augusta; one stepdaughter, April Blanchard and her husband, Peter, of Winthrop; two grandchildren, Robert Curtis; and Arielle Curtis and several stepgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and by a daughter, Stacey Curtis.
