MCLEAN, Va. — William Dodd Hathaway of McLean, Va., died Monday, June 24, in McLean.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1924, and was a former United States Senator from Maine.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lee Bird Hathaway; father of Dr. Susan H. (Richard) Boydston of Cincinnati, Ohio and Fred W. (Lee B.) Hathaway of Washington, D.C.; brother of the late Dr. Jean Fergusson of the Philadelphia, Pa., area and the late John F. Hathaway of the Detroit, Mich., area; grandfather of Elizabeth Britton (Steven Larkin), Lt. Edward Hathaway of USN, Alexander Dodd Boydston (Bart Den Boer), William Broadfoot and Benjamin Dodd Hathaway; and great-grandfather of Kai Benjamin Larkin.
