RUMFORD — For the past 12 months on each first Friday, the Mystic Theater, 49 Franklin St., has opened up to artists actively creating with anything from acrylics and oils, to charcoal and pencils, to, cake, fruit, balloons and more. While visual art is being created, performances happen onstage.

Seasoned performers, musicians, poets, magicians, and jugglers have displayed the results of years of practice and performing; young musicians have taken the stage — some for the first time — in front of a live audience.

Performances for Friday, Sept. 6, include Melanie Jordan and Derek Hoyt who will join host Scot Grassette.

Jordan sings modern country and will be belting out her favorites in her debut Kaleidoscope performance. Last May she was very proud to receive “The Pine Tree State Junior Modern Vocalist of 2013.” She will be entering her junior year at Dirigo High School and is looking forward to continuing her education in art school in Portland or Boston.

Hoyt picked up a guitar about a year ago and has written some originals such as “Pick A String or Two,” “It’s Up To You” and “Here in Maine.” Hoyt will also perform covers of “It Goes Like This” by Thomas Rhett and “Redneck Crazy” by Tyler Farrs.

Other artists performing include Christine Wing, Liz Murphy, Kris Howes, Kaylee Martin, Grace McGivergan and Phoebe Pike. There is no fee for Kaleidoscope, but donations for artists/performers accepted. There will be a cash bar and snacks.
