DIXFIELD — Public memorial services for Charles B. Houghton Sr., of Carthage, were held Thursday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield, with the Rev. John Gensel officiating.

The service opened with prayer, followed by the family reading from “three plates” that Charles created. “In the Garden” was the first featured vocal hymn. The Rev. Gensel offered the eulogy and Melaney, Spencer, Billy, Norman and Melinda offered family remembrances. “Sunday Morning Coming Down” was the next featured vocal, followed by the reading of the 23rd Psalm in unison. The Rev. Gensel offered closing words and a prayer with the Lord’s Prayer, with benediction following. The final vocal selection was “Storms Never Last.”

Following the services, the family shared refreshments with relatives and friends at the old Houghton homestead in Carthage.
