1925 – 2013
SCARBOROUGH — Denise T. Morin, 88, of Farmington, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Aug. 31, at the Gosnell Hospice House.
She was born in Chisholm on March 18, 1925, a daughter of Phillipe and Leda (Marceau) Tardif. She graduated from Jay schools and went on to receive her teaching certificate from Farmington Normal School and later her bachelor’s degree from Farmington State Teacher’s College. It was at college where she met her future husband, J. Wilfrid Morin. They were married on June 25, 1949, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Jay.
Denise began her teaching career in a two-room schoolhouse in North Livermore and later went on to teach at the New Sharon School. She retired from that school after more than 25 years of service.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Farmington and was very involved in the church, especially the Altar Guild. She participated for many years in the local Senior Bowling League and the Tri-Town Square Dancers. Denise was also a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, Kappa Delta Gamma and Gold Leaf.
Denise was a voracious reader and had a particular green thumb. She loved to tell stories of her memories of the Depression years and the strength and courage of the people of that era. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and traveled many miles to attend her grandchildren’s extracurricular endeavors. She will be remembered by her family for instilling a love of God and the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her children, Edmond Morin and his wife, Susanne, of Portland, Virginia “Ginny” Woodman and her husband, Bruce, of Windham, and David Morin and his wife, Elizabeth, of Milford, Mass.; grandchildren, Reid Morin and his wife Erica, David, Kevin and Brian Morin, Teresa Sirois and her husband, Steven, and their children Sydney and Luke, Jeffrey Weeks and his family, Liz and Ethan Abitul, Valerie Simpson and her husband, Jack, and their sons, Benjamin and Matthew, Ann-Marie Adams and her husband, Christopher, and Eric Morin; and Bruce’s children, Sam Woodman and his wife, Heather, and their children, Brayden and Chloe, and Maria Woodman and her children, Annabelle, Emily and Adam. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a sister-in-law, Regina Tardif.
She was predeceased by her husband, J. Wilfrid Morin on July 28, 2007; her sisters, Beatrice Tardif and Lillian Theriault; and brothers, Damien and Gerard Tardif.
Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family on her tribute wall at www.wilesrc.com.
