Area beekeepers to hear speaker

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Beekeepers Club (ABC) will hold its first fall meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in the community room in the basement of the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

At 6:30 the speaker, Tony Bachelder, commercial beekeeper from Buckfield, will discuss fall hive management. Call Charles Armstrong at 784-9757 for more information.

Free benefits seminar for military

LEWISTON — The Maine National Guard is offering free informational seminars for military service members who are retiring soon or who are reaching age 60, when they become eligible for pay and medical coverage.

The Lewiston seminar, occurring at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, will include current information about the retirement application process, Survivor Benefit Plan, the HealthNet and Martin’s Point US Family Health Plan TRICARE benefit, and other state and federal benefits available to the retired member and their dependents.

Service members of all branches who have received a 20-year letter and those service members within a year and a half of turning age 60 are welcome to attend.  Spouses are encouraged to attend as well.

Camera club resuming meetings

BRUNSWICK — The First Light Camera Club of Brunswick will hold its first meeting of the season at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Topsham Medical Building, 4 Horton Place. Yearly dues are $35.

Members will critique the best shot images taken over the summer.

This year the group will have three meetings a month: the second, third and fourth Thursdays. The first meeting will be a critique or judging of member images. The second meeting will be a speaker or other special program. The third meeting will be technical training.

Meadowview planning two day trips

LEWISTON — The Meadowview Senior Complex is planning its last two day trips for adults for the season. On Sunday, Oct. 6, a bus will go to New Hampshire for a boat ride on the Winnipesaukee and a train ride on the HOBO train, with a turkey dinner on the train, then a stop at a mall in North Conway.

The second day trip is the annual Christmas event at Indian Head Resort in New Hampshire. Santa will be on hand with gifts, and there will be a buffet, music for dancing, a show with Russ Peterson Revue. The bus will stop at the Christmas Loft prior to lunch.

The Ark announces two events

LEWISTON — A free parenting class, “Creating Healthy Happy Families,” with Kim Mazone will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at The Ark, 791 Lisbon St.

A free health lecture, “Solutions for Lyme Disease,” with Mary Penner, nurse practitioner, and Cheryl Farley, nutritionist, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
